One of the highlights of our outdoor area here at the Treehouse Lodge is our new, marine-themed Fireball. With some newspaper, chopped wood and sticks gathered from nearby woods, a few determined staff members took on the task of creating the first fire. It was difficult in the beginning; the wood was damp from previous days of rain and we had to repeatedly fan the fire to keep it alive.
With some tips from a knowledgeable Treehouse guest (Thanks, Sam!), we kept the fire going by feeding it Japanese knotweed found nearby on the property. This invasive bamboo-like plant, she informed us, was the perfect way to nourish a fire. Once our wood was situated and a good base fire was created, we continuously added the knotweed to keep it going strong.
With the fireball finally coming to life, we look forward to the summer nights ahead full of s'mores, good company and campfire songs!
